HEALTH EXAMINATIONS & DENTAL HEALTH CERTIFICATES
-
Each student enrolled in public school is required to have a satisfactory health examination conducted by the student’s family physician upon the student’s initial entrance in school at any grade level and for each student entering the Pre-K or K, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th grades. Such examination shall be acceptable if it is administered not more than twelve months prior to the commencement of the school year in which the examination is required.
Any student who does not submit a physical examination within thirty days after his or her initial entrance into school or within thirty days after his or her entry into the Pre-K or K, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th grades, shall have an examination by the school doctor.
New York State Education Law recently expanded the health examination to include the dental health of students. Therefore, when your child is required to have a physical examination, we will be requesting a dental health certificate as well.
A list of dentists to which children who need comprehensive dental examinations may be referred for treatment on a free or reduced cost basis is available upon request at the nurse’s office.
Dental health certificates and health appraisal forms are available on the BCS website, and are also available from the nurse’s office upon request.
