Track & Field Athletes Have Notable Performances At Section VI Track & Field Championships
May 31 & June 1, 2019
WILLIAMSVILLE -- Some of the Barker Track & Field athletes competed in the Section VI State Qualifier meet Friday and Saturday. The athletes represented Barker well—some placed receiving patches and others had personal best records:
Shelby Ewald placed 3rd in the Discus and 6th in the Shot Put.
Josh Weakland placed 4th in High Jump and added 4 inches to his personal best record by clearing 6'.
Ian DiLorenzo placed 4th in the 400 Meter Hurdles with a personal best record of 57.42, just 7 hundredths off the school record.
Dominic Clementi finished 7th in the 800 with a personal best record of 2:00.16.
Madison Gancasz finished 7th in Pole Vault with a personal best record by clearing 9'.
To cap off a good day the 4 x 800 team of DiLorenzo, Nick Guevara, Steven Class and Clementi had an exciting race and a season best time. Clementi came from behind once again to pass Akron and Newfane and then outleaned Maple Grove at the line.
Boys Competed At Clarence While Girls Event Took Place At Lancaster

CLARENCE -- Some members of the Boys Track team competed over the weekend at the Carl Roesch Memorial invitational in Clarence. Jacob Cirillo set a personal best record at 11 feet 6 inches in the Pole Vault and placed 3rd. Andy Callaghan set a personal record in the Pentathlon finishing 3rd. Dominic Clementi improved his personal best record in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:04.6 and placed 4th. The 4 x 800 Meter Relay team of Ian DiLorenzo, Steven Class, Nick Guevara and Clementi finished 4th.
Some members of the girls team competed at the Western New York Classic in Lancaster. Lydia Samson came away with two season bests in the 800 and 1500. The Sprint Medley Relay team of Miya Goodale, Haleigh Mason, Samson and Lucy Ingro placed 6th. Serena Harris placed 6th in the Steeplechase, Shelby Ewald finished 7th in the Discus and Mason was 8th in Long Jump.
DiLorenzo Earns League Title While Ewald Notches 2nd League Championship Crown

MIDDLEPORT -- The Boys and Girls Track teams completed their Niagara-Orleans All-League Meet on Thursday night. Shelby Ewald took the spotlight becoming a two-time champion as she placed 1st in Shot Put. Ian DiLorenzo also came home a champion placing 1st in the 400 Hurdles.

Ewald & Clementi Crowned N-O League Champions

MIDDLEPORT -- Wednesday the Barker Boys and Girls Track teams competed in Day 1 of the All-League meet. Barker came away with two league champions. Shelby Ewald is the new Niagara-Orleans league champion in Discus and Dominic Clementi is the new 800 Meter Run title holder.
Madison Gancasz finished 2nd in Pole Vault. Other athletes competing and making it to the finals on day 2 were Josh Weakland and Jacob Cirillo in the 110m Hurdles, Tyler Hillman in the 200m Dash, Ian DiLorenzo in the 400m Hurdles, Zach Lawson and Alex Jenks in the 400m Run and Bailey Sutch in the 100m Hurdles.
First Place Finishes At All League Sub-Varsity Meet For Goodale, Zglinicki & Jones

MIDDLEPORT -- Some members of the Barker Boys and Girls Track team competed on Monday night at the Sub-Varsity All League Meet. Everyone performed well. Miya Goodale took first in the 100 Meter Dash and Long Jump. Goodale also placed 2nd in the 100 Meter Hurdles and the Triple Jump. Alexa Zglinicki took 1st in the 400 Meter Hurdles and 3rd in the 100 Meter Hurdles. Lydia Samson took 2nd in the 800 Meter Run and 3rd in the 1500. Lucy Ingro took 2nd in the 400 Meter Dash. Lizzy Langendorfer took 3rd in both the 100 and 200 Meter Dashes. Ashlin Cole took 3rd in Long Jump.
For the boys, Dale Jones took 1st in High Jump and 2nd in the 100 Meter Dash. Tyler Cirillo took 2nd in both the Long and Triple Jump. Xander DerSarkissian took 3rd in Triple Jump and the 4 x 100 Relay team of Noah Bowerman, Jones, Cirillo and Jon Pestinger took 2nd.
DiLorenzo Wins 400 Hurdles And Earns Sectional Qualifying Time

BARKER -- The Boys and Girls Track teams competed on Thursday night in the rain. Fortunately, the rain held off during recognition of the 13 Barker seniors whom will be missed dearly next year.
- Shelby Ewald was the only girls double winner, taking 1st in Shot and Disc to stay undefeated in league competition.
- Ian DiLorenzo ran the 400 Hurdles for the first time this year, finished 1st and earned an automatic sectional qualifying time.
- Bailey Sutch took 1st in High Jump.
- Katrina Clare took 1st in the 400 Meter Run.
- Steven Class was a double winner for the boys taking 1st in the 1600 Meter Run and in the 800 Meter Run.
Boys Track Team Pulls Off Thrilling Victory Over Defending League Champion Newfane

NEWFANE -- The Barker Boys Track team made the season coming away with a one point victory over Niagara-Orleans League reigning champions, Newfane, with a score of 71-70.
It was an awesome team effort with many different individuals coming in with key points. Josh Weakland was a double winner taking the 110 Hurdles and High Jump. Jacob Cirillo was also a double winner taking the 400 Hurdles and Pole Vault. Ian DiLorenzo placed first in the 1600 Meter Run and Patrick Dwyer 1st in Discus. Weakland, Cirillo and DiLorienzo also had key 2nd place finishes as did Dominic Clementi, Tyler Hillman, Steven Class, Zach Lawson, Andy Callaghan and Damon Moore. It all came down, however, to a very exciting 4 x 400 relay. That was when Clementi, DiLorenzo, Lawson, and Callaghna brought home the win! There were 26 personal bests on the day for the boys. It was a very thrilling victory.
Shelby Ewald was a double winner for the girls taking the Shot and Disc. Bailey Sutch took 1st in the High Jump and Madison Gancasz took 1st in Pole Vault. The girls, however, took a loss to Newfane. The girls also had 12 personal bests.
Ingro, Samson & Harris All Grab 1st Place Finishes Against Wilson

BARKER -- The Barker Track teams competed Thursday night at home against Wilson. The meet ended in a split as the Barker girls won a close one with a score of 67-65 while the boys lost another close one 73-68. Both teams competed well.
Bailey Sutch was a double winner taking the 100 Hurdles and the 100 Meter Dash. Shelby Ewald was also a double winner taking the Shot and Disc. Other 1st place finishers were Lucy Ingro in the 400, Serena Harris in the 400 Hurdles and Lydia Samson in the 800.
The girls also won the 3200 Meter Relay and the 400 Meter Relay which included Samson, Ingro, Jessica Haseley, Harris, Sutch, Miya Goodale, Sarah Outten and Ashlin Cole.
Josh Weakland took the 110 Hurdles, Ian DiLorenzo won the 800, Jacob Cirillo won the Pole Vault and Damon Moore took the shot.
The boys also won the 3200 Meter Relay and 1600 Meter Relay which included Steven Class, Nick Guevara, Andy Callaghan, Zach Lawson, Alex Jenks and Cirillo.
Lawson Wins Pole Vault At Roy-Hart With Personal Best

MIDDLEPORT -- The Boys and Girls Track teams traveled to Roy-Hart on Tuesday to compete against the Rams. Both teams came up short but the teams did have some highlights:
- High Jump had many personal bests with Bailey Sutch jumping 5 feet, Josh Weakland jumping 5 feet 8 inches, Steven Class 5 feet 4 inches and Dale Jones 5 feet 2 inches.
- Zach Lawson had a personal best in the Pole Vault with a height of 10 feet and placing first.
- Tyler Hillman came in first in the 400 Meter Run in his first start.
- Weakland came in first in the 110 Hurdles and the 100 Meter Dash.
- Dom Clementi took first in the 800.
- Sutch placed first in the 100 Hurdles.
- Katrina Clare took first in the 100 and 200.
- Madison Gancasz took first in the Pole Vault.
- Shelby Ewald took first in the Shot Put and Discus.
Sutch Wins High Jump At Alexander Invitational

ALEXANDER -- Saturday, the Boys and Girls Track teams performed well in the Alexander Trojan Invitational. Josh Weakland finished first in the 110 Meter Hurdles. Bailey Sutch took first in High Jump.
Kaedynce Schumacher and Michael Dalton both took 2nd in Pole Vault. Miya Goodale placed 3rd in Long Jump. Serena Harris took 3rd in the 1500. Steven Class took 3rd in High Jump.
Barker had many more placing 4th through 6th including Tyler Hillman, Shelby Ewald, Lydia Samson, Damon Moore and Noah Costich. Also taking 4th in the Sprint Medley Relay were Lydia Samson, Sarah Outten, Goodale and Lucy Ingro.
Weakland & Class Grab 2 Wins Versus Akron
April 9, 2019
BARKER -- Tuesday night the Barker Raiders Track team hosted the Akron Tigers and came out with a split. The boys won with by a score of 75-66 while the girls lost 89-52.
Shelby Ewald was the lone double winner for the girls taking the shot and discus. Ewald threw a personal best in discus with a toss of 103’ 9”. The girls took first in every field event: Miya Goodale - Long Jump, Kaedynce Schumacher - Triple Jump, Bailey Sutch - High Jump, and Madison Gancasz - Pole Vault.
Double winners for boys were Josh Weakland in the 110 Hurdles and the 100 Meter Dash. Steven Class won both the 3200 Meter Run and High Jump. Other first place finishers were: Tyler Hillman - 200 Metter Dash, Damon Moore - Shot Put, Patrick Dwyer - Discus, and Zach Lawson - Pole Vault.
Both teams performed well in very windy, cold conditions.
Ewald & Dwyer Win Discus Event In Season Opener
April 4, 2019
BARKER -- Thursday night the Boys and Girls Track teams opened the season at home with victories over visiting Medina. The girls score was 79-61 and the boys result was was 83-58.
The girls started off strong taking the first three events. Bailey Sutch had a personal best time in the 100 Hurdles winning with a time of 18.5. Madison Gancasz took 1st in the 100 Meter Dash with Katrina Clare right behind her in 2nd. Clare also took 1st in the 400 Meter Run and 200 Meter Dash. Gancasz added another 1st in the Pole Vault. Serena Harris was a double winner debuting in 400 Meter Hurdles and in the 3000 Meter Run. Shelby Ewald took 1st place honors in both the Shot Put and Discus. Shelby threw her personal best in Discus with a distance of 96 feet 11 inches. Haleigh Mason took one for the team to dig deep to win the 800 Meter run as well as 2nd in Long Jump, and 3rd in both the 1500 Meter Run and Triple Jump.
The boys did the same starting off strong winning the first three events. Josh Weakland was a double winner taking the 110 Hurdles and the 100 Meter Dash. Alex Jenks took 1st in the 400 Meter Run with a time of 59.94. Tyler Hillman took 1st in the 200 Meter Dash. Zach Lawson took 1st in the Pole Vault. Damon Moore was first in Shot Put and Patrick Dwyer took 1st in Discus.
It was a great start to the season and a nice team effort was put forth by everyone to secure the wins.
