For over three decades, Lions clubs around the globe have been sponsoring a very special art contest in schools and youth groups. Creating peace posters gives children everywhere the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity. Barker Lions Club participates in this International Competition. To determine the local winner, the entries are put on display at a regular meeting. The members present vote by secret ballot to select the entry to move on to the District 20N competition. From there, the winning entry moves to the MD20 New York State and Bermuda competition, and finally onto the International competition. At the International level, the student receives a college scholarship. Also, he or she is a guest at the Lions International Convention and has their entry made into a lapel pin.
This year, 6th grade student, Elise Monaco (pictured above with Barker Lions Club member Mr. Tom Mallon and Pratt Elementary Art teacher, Mrs. Melissa Phillips), was selected as the local winner. Mr. Mallon presented Elise with an art kit for her winning entry. The Lions appreciate all the entries and look forward to next year’s Peace Poster Contest.
