School Resource Officers - Letter to Community

Somerset Police Cruiser

Hello Again Barker Community,

With Spring approaching, students often start considering summer job opportunities. When in pursuit of these job opportunities it is important to consider a few of the qualities and skills that potential employers will find desirable in a candidate. The list below is just a few examples of what employers are looking for when considering a new applicant:

  1. Can I work well with others in a team environment?
  2. Do I verbally communicate with others inside and outside of an organization?
  3. Am I able to make smart decisions and solve problems as they arise?
  4. Am I able to obtain and process the information that is needed to perform my job?
  5. Am I able to plan, organize and balance my work schedule while maintaining healthy relationships with my friends and family?
  6. Am I interested in the job that I am applying for, and do I possess the skills necessary to adequately perform the job?
  7. Can I sell or persuade others?
  8. Am I able to take constructive criticism?

As individuals, no two people's skill sets are alike, as we each possess unique characteristics and motivations that will set us apart from each other. In your job search, reflect on the skills and accomplishments that you have achieved as a student at Barker Central School. By applying this knowledge and skills, it will provide you with a solid base to begin your employment journey and make you an asset, not only for your chosen employer, but also in the community.

Good luck on your endeavors and as always if you see it, hear it, please report it.
