Annual Budget Vote and Trustee Election

The Annual Budget Vote and Trustee Election will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from Noon to 8 P.M. in the Herbert F. Ludwig Fine Arts Hall in the Barker High School at 1628 Quaker Road, Barker, New York.

Two seats on the seven-member Board of Education will be available July 1, 2026. Currently, the three-year terms are held by John Sweeney, Jr., and Emily Gow, the individuals  receiving the highest numbers of votes will fill the terms.

Military, Absentee, and Early ballots are available by contacting the District Clerk at 716-795-3110 or meadie@barkercsd.net for an application.

Voter Eligibility - To qualify as a voter, a person must be:

  • A citizen of the United States
  • At least 18 years of age
  • A resident of Barker Central School District for at least 30 days prior to the vote

No prior registration is required and residents do not have to be registered voters. (Education Law § 2012). 

 

Dates to note:

2/13/2026 - Board Candidate petitions and expense reports are available

4/1/2026 - Early mailing/absentee/military ballot applications are available

4/20/206 - Petitions must be received by the District Clerk at the office by 5:00 p.m.

4/21/2026 - Determination by random draw of ballot position

5/12/2026 - Budget Hearing at 6:30 p.m.

5/19/2026 - Annual Election and Budget Vote 12:00 - 8:00 p.m.

 

Misc:

Deadlines for Absentee/Early Mail Ballot Applications

  • Mail-in applications: Must be received by the District Clerk no later than 7 days before the voteTuesday, May 12, 2026

  • In-person applications: If you hand-deliver the application, it must be received by the District Clerk no later than the day before the voteMonday, May 18, 2026. Absentee Ballots may only be given to the individual that completed the application. 

Absentee Ballots 

  • Completed absentee or early mail ballots: Must be received back by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on Election DayTuesday, May 19, 2026in order to be counted
