Webb Completes Stellar Swim Season
March 3 & 4, 2017
EAST MEADOW, NY -- Over the weekend, Collin Webb ended the boy’s swim season by traveling to Long Island where he competed with 460 of the best swimmers from across the state in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championship meet. Webb was the second Barker swimmer to ever compete at the state level and the only Barker swimmer to ever qualify in two events: the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Freestyle. Webb swam well and placed 56th in the 50 Free and 45th in the 100 Free.
 
During the season Webb set two individual records and was a member of two relay teams that also set records. He won multiple league and Class C titles and was awarded Class C Swimmer of the Meet.
 
Record Breaking Performances And State Qualifications For Barker Swimmers
February 13 & 14, 2017
BUFFALO -- Barker Swimmers traveled to Buffalo to compete in the Section VI Championship meet on Monday and Tuesday. After the first day of competition, the Barker swimmers qualified for the championship heat in 3 events. Barker placed in the top 8 out of all Section VI swimmers in each of the those three events. They are part of an elite group of athletes from 55 swim teams across Western New York. To put it in perspective, our swimmers, from the school with the third smallest student body are not only competing against teams with a student body that may be 10 times greater than Barker, but they are winning against those teams.
 
Collin Webb led the way by dropping his 50 Free record again and qualifying for the New York State Championship Meet with a time of 22.10 seconds. Webb also finished 4th in the 100 Freestyle. He also has qualified in the that event for the state meet. Drew Jenks, Collin Stevener, Adam Wagner, and Webb set a new Barker 200 Freestyle Relay record while finishing in 8th place. Competing in individual events at the meet were: Dominic Clementi - 100 Breaststroke; Stevener and Jenks - 100 Butterfly; Wagner - 200 Free; Joey Baronich as a member of the 200 Medley Relay.
 
The boys had a great season, breaking 4 school records along the way. Congratulations to the entire team to and good luck to Webb who will be representing Barker at the state meet next month in New York City. 

Webb Awarded Oustanding Swimmer of the Meet At Class C Championships
February 3 & 4, 2017
ROCHESTER/NEWFANE -- Collin Webb and Sara Gendrue led an assault on the Barker record board over the weekend at the Class C Championship Meet and the N-O/G-R Girls Crossover Meet. On Friday at Gates Chili High School, Gendrue lowered her previously established marks in the 200 I.M. and 100 Breaststroke. She finished 5th in the I.M. and placed 1st in the Breaststroke, defeating the rest of the competition by 2 seconds. The 200 Medley Relay of Natalie Bruning, Chloe Goodlander, Natalie Menz, and Gendrue placed 3rd. Other top six finishers were:  Natalie Menz - 6th in 50 Free; Bruning, Goodlander, Gendrue, Menz - 400 Free Relay, 6th place. The girls finished the season with a total of 195 personal best times.
 
On Saturday at Newfane, Webb, was involved in re-writing 3 Barker school records, tying a fourth, winning 2 individual events, anchoring 2 winning relays and meeting the state qualifying standard in the 100 Free. Webb is on a short list of Barker swimmers that have qualified to compete at the state level. The last time a Barker swimmer did so was Ryan Levy in 2011. Webb started his impressive meet with a first place finish and Barker school record in the 50 Free. He then did the same in the 100 Free, shattering the record by alomst a second.
 
Teaming up with Collin Stevener, Adam Wagner, and Andrew Jenks, Webb anchored the 200 Free Relay and 400 Free Relay to victories. The relay teams set a new record in the 400 and tied the 200 time. Jenks was Barker's 5th event Champion as he won the 100 Butterfly against strong competition. In light of Webb's impressive performance, he was voted by the coaches as the "Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet" and was awarded a trophy.
 
Other top 6 finishers were: Stevener, Clementi, Jenks, Wagner - 200 Medley Relay, 6th; Wagner - 200 Free, 6th.
 
The boys have recorded 223 improved times this season and have qualified for Sectionals in several events. Those that qualified will travel to ECC on February 13th and 14th.

Gendrue In On Three School Records At All League Meet 
January 27, 2017
NEWFANE -- After the performances the boys had at the Niagara-Orleans League meet on Wednesday, taking first in 5 events and setting 23 personal best times, the ladies had big shoes to fill on Friday night in their meet. The girls turned in a very impressive meet as well, winning 2 races and setting 23 personal records. The team also broke 3 Barker school records in the process. Sara Gendrue captured two league championships by taking the 200 I.M. and the 100 Breaststroke. Gendrue broke the 200 I.M. record with a time of 2:28.80, which was a 5 second improvement over her previous best time. Gendrue also rewrote the record book by improving her 100 Breastroke time by 2.42 seconds. The I.M. record had stood for 21 years while the Breastroke record, a 37 year old mark, now stands at 1:12.88. Gendrue's time was more than 6 seconds better than the rest of the field.
 
Earlier in the meet, Gendrue teamed up with Natalie Bruning, Chloe Goodlander, and Natalie Menz to break the 200 Medley Relay record and grab a 2nd place finish in a time of 2:02.34. Other top 5 finishers were: Katrina Clare, Ella Gooding, Lena Fazzolari, Shelby Ewald - 3rd in the 200 Medley “B” Relay; Natalie Bruning was 4th in the 200 I.M.; Abby Bachman was 5th in the 200 I.M.; Menz was 4th in the 50 Free; Goodlander, Paige Sandolfini, Fazzolari, Ewald were 2nd in the 200 Free “B” Relay; 400 Free “B” Relay – Anie Carestia, Madison Gancasz, Ewald, Abby Bachman took 3rd in the 400 Free "B" Relay; Menz, Goodlander, Bruning, Gendrue were 3rd in the 400 Free "A" Relay.
 
The girls will prepare for the N-O/G-R Crossover meet to be held on Friday, February 3rd at Gates Chili swimming complex.  

Boys Swimmers Win 5 Events At Niagara-Orleans All League Meet
January 25, 2017
AKRON -- Barker swimmers competed at Niagara Orleans All League Meet on Wednesday night and to put it bluntly, they shocked the world! Barker produced 5 league champions out of the 11 events. That was more than any other team. Collin Webb repeated as league champion in the 50 and 100 Freestyle events while Andrew Jenks surprised everyone winning the 100 Butterfly. Webb and Jenks teamed up with Collin Stevener and Adam Wagner to win both the 200 and the 400 Freestyles Relays, just missing the 400 record by .01 seconds. Other Barker swimmers who placed in the top 5 were: Stevener 4th in the 100 Butterfly; Dominic Clementi 5th in the 100 Butterfly and 5th in the 100 Breastroke; Stevener, Clementi, Jenks, Kevin Biggs took5th in the 200 Medley Relay; Clementi, Biggs, Joe Baronich, Matthew Pestinger were 1st in the 200 Free “B” Relay; Zach Cogar, Mike Dalton, Alex Jenks, Pestinger were 3rd in the 400 Free “B” Relay.
 
Barker set 23 personal best times were set at the meet for a grand total of 213 for the season. Combined with the 166 from the girls team, there have been a total of 379 between the two teams. The boys will now prepare for the Section VI Class C Championship Meet which will be held on Saturday, February 4th at Newfane.

Swim Teams Sweep 22 Events Against Medina

BARKER -- The Barker Swim teams hosted Medina on Friday for their last regular season meet and both teams won in impressive fashion. The boys and girls took every first possible - a combined 22 events. Taking top spots for the ladies were: Anie Carestia - 200 and 500 Free; Natalie Menz - 50 and 100 Free; Sara Gendrue - 200 I.M and 100 Breaststroke; Chloe Goodlander - 100 Fly; Natalie Bruning - 100 Back; 200 Medley Relay - Bruning, Gendrue, Goodlander, Menz; 200 Free Relay - Abby Bachman, Katrina Clare, Gendrue, Menz; 400 Free Relay - Goodlander, Carestia, Bachman, Bruning.
 
The ladies are now 8-6 overall and 4-6 in league competition.
 
Top finishers for the boys were: Adam Wagner - 200 and 500 Free; Drew Jenks - 200 I.M and 100 Breaststroke; Collin Stevener - 50 Free and 100 Fly; Collin Webb - 100 Free and 100 Back; 200 Medley Relay - Webb, Stevener, Dominic Clementi, Jenks; 200 Free Relay - Kevin Biggs, Clementi, Wagner, Jenks; 400 Free Relay - Matthew Pestinger, Stevener, Wagner, Webb.
 
The boys have a 9-5 overall record and are 6-4 in Niagara-Orleans League competition.
 
The swimmers will compete in the All League meets on Wednesday, January 25th when the boys travel to Akron and then on Friday, January 27th when the girls are at Newfane.

Season Total For Personal Records Hits 300
January 18, 2017
BARKER -- There were 33 personal best times performed as the Raider swimmers put on a show for the spectators on Wednesday night at home in a meet with Newfane. Chloe Goodlander set personal records in all four of her events and Alex Jenks led the boys with three. The season total for improvements is 332. 
The meet results were a split decision as the boys won, but the girls fell short to the perennial Niagara-Orleans League Champions. Firsts for Barker were: Natalie Menz - 50 Free; Abby Bachman - 100 Breaststroke; Collin Webb - 50 and 100 Free; Dominic Clementi - 100 Fly; 200 Free Relay - Adam Wagner, Clementi, Kevin Biggs, Webb; 400 Free Relay: Jenks, Matthew Pestinger, Wagner, Webb.

The season record for the girls is 7-6 while the boys sit at 8-5 with one more dual meet. The final meet will be at home vs. Medina on Friday, January 20th and it will be Senior Recognition Night.

Wagner Wins 200 & 100 Free Races

AKRON -- The Barker Raiders swimmers competed in their last regular season away meet on Thursday when they traveled to Akron to take on the Tigersharks. It was some stiff competition. There was a split with the boys winning and the girls losing. Sara Gendrue and Natalie Menz were double winners for the ladies with Gendrue taking the 200 Free and the 100 Breaststroke while Menz won both the 50 and 100 Free. The ladies team record is 3-5 in the league and 7-5 overall.

The boys were able to claim victory in 10 events on their way to taking the meet. Winners were: Adam Wagner - 200 and 100 Free; Andrew Jenks - 200 I.M. and 500 Free; Collin Webb - 50 Free and 100 Back; Dominic Clementi - 100 Breaststroke. Winning relays were: Webb, Jenks, Clementi, Collin Stevener - 200 Medley; Matthew Pestinger, Zack Cogar, Joseph Baronich, Michael Dalton - 200 Free; Pestinger, Stevener, Wagner, Alex Jenks - 400 Free. The boys' record is 4-4 in the league and 7-5 overall.
 
The teams next host Newfane on Wednesday at 4:30 PM.

Swim Teams Fight Fatigue To Compete Against Roy-Hart 
January 7, 2017
BARKER -- The teams had the difficult task of returning to the pool on Saturday morning to compete with Roy-Hart for an 11:00 AM meet after an afternoon meet with Albion the day before. In spite of their tired bodies, the Raiders swam tough. The girls lost 75-91, taking 5 of 11 races. Natalie Menz and Sara Gendrue were double winners in individual events. Menz won the 50 and 100 Free while Gendrue took the 200 Free and 100 Breaststroke. Menz and Gendrue also teamed up with Abby Bachman and Katrina Clare to win the 200 Free Relay.
 
The girls team has a 3-3 league record and 7-3 overall.
 
The boys took 6 of 11 firsts against the defending league champions, losing 71-98. Collin Webb was a double winner in individual events, taking the 50 and 100 Free. Adam Wagner won the 200 Free and Drew Jenks took the 500 Free. Webb and Jenks teamed up with Collin Stevener and Joe Baronich to win the 200 Medley Relay. Webb, Jenks, Wagner, and Dominic Clementi won the 200 Free Relay.
 
The boys are 3-3 in the league and 6-4 overall. At the midway point of the season, Barker swimmers have performed 255 personal best times.

Stevener Wins 50 Free
January 6, 2017
BARKER -- There was a lot of excitement in the pool Friday night as the Albion Purple Eagles came to town. The teams split with Albion with the girls winning 110-60 and the boys losing by a mere 2 points, 84-86. The Barker girls won 8 of the 11 events. Sara Gendrue was an individual double winner taking both the 200 I.M. and the 100 Breaststroke. Other winners were: Natalie Bruning - 100 Backstroke; Anie Carestia - 500 Free; Natalie Menz - 50 Free. Winning relays were: 200 Medley - Bruning, Abby Bachman, Chloe Goodlander, Menz; 200 Free - Menz, Bachman, Katrina Clare, Gendrue; 400 Free - Goodlander, Carestia, Bruning, Gendrue.
 
Although the boys lost the meet, they took 7 of 11 events and swam 28 personal best times.  Individual winners were: Collin Webb - 50 Free and 100 Back; Drew Jenks - 200 I.M. and 500 Free; Collin Stevener - 50 Free. The winning relays were: 200 Medley - Stevener, Jenks, Webb, Joe Baronich; 400 Free- Stevener, Jenks, Webb, Adam Wagner. 

Carestia & Gendrue Are Double Winners Against Medina
January 4, 2017
MEDINA -- Barker Swimmers picked up victories in both the girls and the boys competition in Medina on Wednesday night. The scores were 99-71 for the girls and 94-76 for the boys. The ladies won 9 of 11 events while the guys took all 11 events. Victors for the girls were:  200 Medley Relay - Natalie Bruning, Abby Bachman, Chloe Goodlander, Natalie Menz; 200 Free Relay - Sara Gendrue, Bachman, Katrina Clare, Menz; 400 Free Relay - Anie Carestia, Goodlander, Bruning, Gendrue. There were two double winners: Carestia - 200 and 500 Free; Gendrue - 200 I.M. and 100 Breaststroke. Other individual winners were: Goodlander - 100 Butterfly; Bruning - 100 Backstroke. The team is 6-2.

Relay winners for the boys were: 200 Medley - Collin Stevener, Joe Baronich, Drew Jenks, Collin Webb; 200 Free - Jenks, Dominic Clementi, Matthew Pestinger, Adam Wagner; 400 Free Relay - Wagner, Pestinger, Stevener, Webb.  The following boys were double winners: Wagner - 200 and 500 Free; Jenks -200 I.M. and 100 Breaststroke; Stevener - 50 Free and 100 Fly; Webb - 100 Free and 100 Backstroke. The boys are now 6-2.
 
The next meet will be in Barker on Friday vs. Albion at 4:30.

Clementi In On 3 Race Victories

BARKER -- Barker hosted the Akron Tiger Sharks on Tuesday night and earned a split. The boys placed first in all of the events to win the meet and raiser their record to 4-2. The ladies dropped their first meet of the season and sit at 5-1. Placing first were:  First place finishes for the girls team were: 200 Free Relay - Abby Bachman, Katrina Clare, Anie Carestia, Sara Gendrue; 100 Breaststroke - Gendrue.
 
The winners for the boys were: 200 Medley Relay - Collin Stevener, Drew Jenks, Dominic Clementi, Collin Webb; 200 Free Relay - Clementi, Kevin Biggs, Adam Wagner, Webb; 400 Free Relay - Wagner, Matthew Pestinger, Stevener, Jenks; 200 Free - Wagner; 200 I.M. and 500 Free - Jenks; 50 and 100 Free - Webb; 100 Fly and 100 Back - Stevener; 100 Breaststroke - Clementi.
 
The Raiders travel to Newfane on Thursday for a 4:30 meet.

Bruning Grabs 1 Individual Event & In On 2 Relay Victories

ALBION -- The swim teams competed with Albion in the Purple Eagles pool on Monday night and came home with a split decision. The girls won 59-35, while the boys lost a close one 42-52. Taking 7 events, the girls remained unbeaten for the season at 5-0. Relay winners were: 200 Medley - Natalie Bruning, Abby Bachman, Chloe Goodlander, Natalie Menz; 200 Free - Sara Gendrue, Bachman, Katrina Clare, Menz; 400 Free - Anie Carestia, Goodlander, Bruning, Gendrue. Taking individual events were: Menz - 50 Free; Carestia - 500 Free; Bruning - 100 Back; Gendrue - 100 Breaststroke.
 
The boys won 5 events in their efforts. Taking first were: 200 Medley Relay - Collin Stevener, Dominic Clementi, Andrew Jenks, Zack Cogar; Adam Wagner - 200 Free; Joe Baronich - 100 Breaststroke; Jenks - 200 I.M. and 500 Free. The boys are 3-2 for the season.
 
The Raiders next host Roy-Hart on Thursday at 4:30. This match-up could prove to be an exciting one.

Final Tune-Up For Barker Swimmers
December 6, 2016
BERGEN -- In the final non-league meet of the season, the boys and girls swim teams won convincingly against the Byron Bergen Bees on Tuesday. The girls are now 4-0 and the boys are 3-1. The ladies won 9 of 11 events including all three relays. Winners were: 200 Medley Relay - Natalie Menz, Abby Bachman, Natalie Bruning, Katrina Clare; 200 Free Relay - Bachman, Anie Carestia, Menz, Sara Gendrue; 400 Free Relay - Gendrue, Chloe Goodlander, Carestia, Bruning. Individually, Menz and Gendrue each took 2 events: Menz - 50 Free and 100 Back and Gendrue - 200 Free and 500 Free. Also winning individual events were: Bruning - 100 Fly; Bachman - 100 Free.
The boys team grabbed 9 events as well, including the three relays. Winners were: 200 Medley Relay - Zack Cogar, Dominic Clementi, Andrew Jenks, Collin Webb; 200 Free Relay - Jenks, Matthew Pestinger, Adam Wagner, Webb; 400 Free Relay - Webb, Pestinger, Clementi, Wagner. Grabbing victories in individual events were: Jenks, a double winner - 100 Fly and 100 Breaststroke; Adam Wagner, winning twic - 200 Free and 100 Back; Webb - 500 Free; Clementi - 200 I.M.

The Raiders kick off the regular season in Albion on Monday, December 12th against the Purple Eagles.

Girls Swim Team Races To 3-0 Start 
December 3, 2016
BARKER -- The Raider Swim teams put on a show for the crowd in defeating the tough Attica Blue Devils at home on Saturday. The girls won 99-62 and the boys won 86-80. The girls claimed 7 events as they remained undefeated at 3-0 on the season. Winning relay teams were: 200 Medley - Natalie Bruning, Sara Gendrue, Chloe Goodlander, Natalie Menz; 200 Free - Gendrue, Katrina Clare, Anie Carestia, Menz; 400 Free - Carestia, Clare, Goodlander, Bruning. Individual event winners were: Gendrue - 200 I.M. and 100 Breaststroke; Menz - 50 and 100 Free.
 
The boys took 5 events to raise their record to 2-1. Winning relay teams were: 200 Medley - Collin Stevener, Dominic Clementi, Andrew Jenks, Collin Webb; 200 Free - Matthew Pestinger, Clementi, Adam Wagner, Webb. Jenks was a double winner taking the 200 I.M. and 500 Free.
 
Barker swimmers have improved their PR’s 85 times in the first 3 meets! The team will travel to Byron Bergen on Tuesday to complete the non-league portion of the season. 

Swim Teams Both Take 400 Free Relay

BARKER -- On Thursday, December 1st, the Swim team hosted Wheatland-Chili. The victors for the ladies were: Anie Carestia - 200 and 500 Free; Sara Gendrue - 200 I.M. and 100 Breaststroke; Natalie Menz - 50 and 100 Free; Natalie Bruning - 100 Fly and 100 Back; 200 Medley Relay - Chloe Goodlander, Menz, Abby Bachman, Bruning; 200 Free Relay - Bachman, Katrina Clare, Carestia, Gendrue; 400 Free Relay - Goodlander, Paige Sandolfini, Carestia, Menz.
Winning for the boys were: Collin Webb - 50 and 100 Free; Andrew Jenks - 200 I.M and 500 Free; Collin Stevener - 100 Fly and 100 Back; Adam Wagner - 200 Free; Dominic Clementi - 100 Breaststroke; 200 Medley Relay - Stevener, Clementi, Jenks, Webb; 200 Free Relay - Clementi, Matthew Pestinger, Wagner, Webb; 400 Free Relay - Christian Young, Zachary Lawson, Sergio Bautista-Lopez, Michael Dalton.

The Raiders will take on the Attica Blue Devils on Saturday at 11:00 AM in the Barker pool.

Girls Swim Team Begins Season With Victory 
November 29, 2016 
BARKER -- The Barker Swim teams opened the 2016-2017 season competing against the Pembroke Dragons in a meet that resulted in a victory for the ladies and a close loss for the boys. The Lady Raiders took first in all 11 events. Winners were: 200 Medley Relay - Natalie Bruning, Abby Bachman, Chloe Goodlander, Natalie Menz; 200 Free Relay - Sara Gendrue, Bachman, Anie Carestia, Menz; 400 Free Relay - Carestia, Goodlander, Bruning, Gendrue. Taking individual firsts were: Carestia - 200 and 500 Free; Gendrue - 200 I.M. and 100 Breaststroke; Menz - 50 and 100 Free; Goodlander - 100 Fly; Bruning - 100 Back.
 
The boys placed 1st in the opening 8 events, but could not keep up with the number of swimmers on the other team. Placing 1st were: Collin Stevener, Dominic Clementi, Andrew Jenks, Collin Webb - 200 Medley Relay; Adam Wagner - 200 Free; Jenks - 200 I.M. and 500 Free; Webb - 50 and 100 Free; Stevener - 100 Fly; Webb, Clementi, Wagner, Jenks - 200 Free Relay.
 
The Raiders swim at home on Thursday against Wheatland Chili. The meet starts at 4:30.
