KENDALL -- The Varsity Girls Basketball picked up their first win of the season after defeating Medina 43-42 in overtime of the consolation game of the Kendall Tournament on Saturday. Alyssa Thompson led the way with 17 points.

MEDINA -- After a slow start and a somewhat close first half the Barker Varsity Girls Basketball team heated up in the second half to take the win over Medina on Thursday night, 44-21. Leading the way was Sydnie Luckman with 27 points and 6 rebounds. Chloe Lee added 7 points and 10 big rebounds. Sarah Outten had 5 points and Natalie Bruning got her first point of the season.
The next game is Saturday against Wilson.
Lady Raiders Win OT Thriller At Roy-Hart

MIDDLEPORT -- The Lady Raiders pulled together for a thrilling 54-50 overtime victory at Roy-Hart on Tuesday with a great team effort. Leading the way for Barker was Sydnie Luckman scoring 21 points and also forcing the game to OT with 0.7 seconds left in the game. Serena Harris showed, once again, how to control the game defensively and also added 12 points on the scoresheet. Dakota Leising helped out with 8, Rachel Parfinski had 5 and Chloe Lee and Kylie Annable both helped out with 4 points each.

BARKER -- Thursday night the Varsity Girls Basketball team defeated Akron 36-27. Sydnie Luckman led the way with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Serena Harris had 5 points and Kylie Annable helped shut down the paint with 5 huge blocked shots to help keep Akron from scoring.

Serena Harris hit a go-ahead 3 pointer with less than a minute remaining to preserve the 45-43 victory. Gabby Baker led the way with 15 points, while Harris and Haley Brown chipped in with 13 and 10 points respectively. Kylie Miller hauled down 7 rebounds.

Barker came from behind after being down most of the game. Caitlyn Mason scored 8 of her game high 23 points in the decisive 4th quarter in which the team outscored Portville 21-12. Lydia Dewart chipped in with 11 points, while Lindsey Williams and Haley Brown each added 8 points.

KENDALL -- The Varsity Lady Raiders brought home the Kendall Tournament championship on Saturday with a 31-22 victory over host Kendall. Barker was led on offense by Haley Brown who netted a game high 15 points. Caitlyn Mason and Lindsey Williams chipped in with 7 and 4 points respectively.
The Raiders had an excellent defensive game holding Kendall to just 10 second half points. Brown was chosen for the All-Tournament Team and Caitlyn Mason was selected as the tournament MVP.

BARKER -- Caitlyn Mason was selected to the Niagara-Orleans League 2nd Team for Girls Basketball at a recent coaches meeting. Melissa Grosshans also received recognition as Honorable Mention.
Grosshans and Maicie Baker were selected to participate in the Exceptional Senior Game on Friday, March 13 at Medina High School at 5:30. Congratulations to these players and to the entire team on a great season which included the Section VI Class C Quarter Finals victory over Tapestry in Sectionals.
Season Ends At Hands Of Defending State Champion

JAMESTOWN -- The season for the Lady Raiders Varsity Basketball team ended on Wednesday night at Jamestown Community College as Barker was defeated by the defending New York State Champion Chautauqua Lake Thunder Hawks by a score of 51-16. The #1 seeded Thunder Hawks used their size, speed and half court trap to keep Barker from getting any rhythm in the game. Caitlyn Mason led the team in scoring with 6 points while Melissa Grosshans chipped in with 5.
Barker finished the season with a 10-10 overall record.
Lady Raiders Headed To Semi Finals In Jamestown

BARKER -- Thursday night the Varsity Girls Basketball team notched an impressive 46-40 victory in the Class C1 Quarter Finals at Tapestry Charter School. Melissa Grosshans netted a game high 19 while Caitlyn Mason poured in 18. The two guards were relentless with their defensive pressure that keyed a huge third quarter comeback against the Thunder Hawks. Maicie Baker was an inside presence at the defensive end with 5 blocks and drew a charge. Kelsi Flegal and Lindsey Williams did a great job playing help side defense for the Lady Raiders.
Barker is now 10-9 and will The team will travel to Jamestown Community College on Wednesday for a 6:45 game in the Semi Finals against the Chautauqua Lake Thunderbirds. A spectator bus is being organized for students in grades 9-12 who are looking to make the trip to the southern tier for the game. Barker is now 10-9 overall.

MIDDLEPORT -- On Thursday at Roy-Hart, Melissa Grosshans netted 9 points while Kelsi Flegal and Caitlyn Mason both added 8. Lindsey Williams and Maicie Baker both chipped in with 6. Courtney Bodine added 2 as the Lady Raiders picked up a 39-26 victory against the Rams.
Barker finished the season at 5-9 in Niagara-Orleans League and 9-9 overall as they head into sectionals next week. The team will travel to Tapestry Charter School in Buffalo for a Section VI Class C1 Quarter Final game on Thursday, February 26 at 7:00 pm.

Mason Stays Hot With 19 Against League's Best

BARKER -- Playing their senior night game a day late and in the afternoon due to a school cancellation the day before, Maicie Baker, Melissa Grosshans and Kelsi Flegal along with their teammates put up a great fight against N-O League leading and undefeated Wilson before falling to the Lakewomen 40-32. Morgan Brown was not in the line-up due to an injury, but she along with the other three senior members of the team will remember the best game for Barker against Wilson in recent years.
Caitlyn Mason drained a game high 19 in the loss. Lindsey Williams added 5 while Flegal and Grosshans both scored 4.
Barker is now 4-8 in the league and 8-8 overall.

BARKER -- On Thursday night against Akron, Maicie Baker was a huge factor offensively with her 6 point contribution and screens set for the guards. Barker notched an impressive 42-22 win as Caitlyn Mason dropped in a game high 18. Melissa Grosshans added 6 of her own while Becky Stoloski, Lindsey Williams, and Kelsi Flegal all scored 4.

Morgan Brown played solid defense in the paint for the Lady Raiders. Gabby Wasnock also contributed defensively during a few late possessions. Barker is now 7-5 overall and 3-5 in Niagara-Orleans League play.

Lady Raiders Give Great Effort

BUFFALO -- Thursday night the Varsity Girls Basketball team dropped a hard fought 50-38 decision to CSAT as Melissa Grosshans and Caitlyn Mason scored 17 and 13 respectively. Also for the Lady Raiders, Courtney Bodine set solid screens while Lindsey Williams contributed 4 points and some good defensive play. The game known as the Sportmanship Showcase, featured plenty of sportsmanlike play as members of each team extended a hand to help each other up throughout the game and a mutual respect for each other was evident.
The team is now 2-5 in the league and 6-5 overall. Barker will travel to Medina on Tuesday for a 6:30 game.

BARKER -- On Friday night the Varsity Girls Basketball team picked up a 48-32 victory over Roy-Hart to improve to 2-4 in the league and 6-4 overall. Melissa Grosshans netted a game high 20 points with 5 three pointers. Caitlyn Mason also hit for double figures with 11 while Lindsey Williams scored 8. Maicie Baker had a team high 7 rebounds.
The entire team contributed in the victory as Barker ended a 3 game losing streak to keep its overall record above .500. The girls will play on Thursday at CSAT. JV start time is 4:30 with Varsity to follow.
Third Quarter Struggles Return For Lady Raiders

BARKER -- Melissa Grosshans drained 9 points while Maicie Baker added 5 for the Lady Raiders on Tuesday night. Barker held a 10-7 advantage after one quarter and trailed by just 4 at the half against Newfane, but was unable to claw back and dropped a 45-26 decision to the league leading Panthers.

WILSON -- Defending league champion Wilson was on its game Friday night and chalked up a 56-24 victory over the Lady Raiders Varsity Basketball team. Melissa Grosshans scored 10 while Caitlyn Mason chipped in with 7. The unbeaten Lakewomen used quarters of 11, 9, 17 and 19 to pull away further each stanza.

Rough Third Quarter Decides Fate Of Lady Raiders

ALBION -- The Varsity Girls Basketball team kept things close for the first half at Albion on Tuesday, but a rough third quarter was too much to recover from as they lost 45-23 to the Purple Eagles. Down 13-9 after one and 17-12 at the half Barker hung with the one loss Albion girls for 16 minutes. An 18-2 outburst in the third, by Albion proved to be the big difference. Barker was outscored 10-9 in the fourth. Caitlyn Mason led the way for the Lady Raiders with 12 points. Melissa Grosshans did a great job on Albion's guards holding one of their top scorers to just 5 points.
The team is now 1-2 in the league and 5-2 overall. Barker returns to action on Friday at Wilson. The JV game will start at 5:00 with the Varsity game to follow.
Brown Has Standout Game Against Medina

BARKER -- Tuesday night the Varsity Girls Basketball team evened its league record at 1-1 with a tightly contested 31-28 victory. Morgan Brown had a very strong game at both ends of the floor for the Lady Raiders, now 5-1 overall. Brown scored 6 points and added 4 steals and 4 rebounds while Melissa Grosshans had a team high 9 points to go with solid defense. Caitlyn Mason netted 7 and was in on 3 steals and picked up 4 rebounds.
Courtney Bodine played well in the post and set solid screens while Lindsey Williams and Becky Stoloski also contributed to the victory. Williams was 3 of 4 from the line while Stoloski provided aggressive play during her minutes played. Kelsi Flegal played a good defensive game and ran the court very well to provide opportunities in the transition game. Maicie Baker had quality screens and cuts to the basket and grabbed 6 boards.
Barker will travel to CSAT on Friday for 4:30 JV game with Varsity to follow.
Plenty Of Defense For Lady Raiders

AKRON -- Melissa Grosshans and Caitlyn Mason scored 11 and 10 points respectively for the Varsity Girls Basketball team on Friday night at Akron. Barker lost the Niagara-Orleans League opener 27-25 in a game which featured some impressive defense and struggles on offense. Maicie Baker and Morgan Brown both added 2 points to round out the scoring for the Lady Raiders.
The girls will head into the winter break 0-1 in league play and 4-1 overall. The next game is at home on Tuesday, January 6 against Medina. JV start time is 4:30 with Varsity to follow.
Flegal Provides Offensive Spark

BARKER -- Playing at home for the first time this season, the Lady Raiders Varsity Basketball team rallied from a 23-22 halftime deficit to grab a 41-34 victory over Tonawanda on Thursday night. Caitlyn Mason led Barker with 13 while Kelsi Flegal scored 6 of her 11 points during a 14-3 outburst in the third quarter to provide an offensive spark that helped propel the Lady Raiders to a 4-0 overall record. Melissa Grosshans contributed 7 points to the cause.
Once again the Barker defense was impressive as they shook off a 14 point first quarter by the Warriors and held Tonawanda's leading scorer to 9 points. She had averaged 17.3 points per game in her previous 3 contests. Flegal and Grosshans were big parts of that defense. Morgan Brown and Maicie Baker both chipped in with 4 points and were solid at the defensive end for Barker.

LYNDONVILLE -- The Varsity Girls Basketball team notched a 35-22 victory over Lyndonville on Tuesday night. Morgan Brown and Melissa Grosshans both canned 10 points while Lindsey Williams and Caitlyn Mason scored 7 and 6 respectively. Maicie Baker grabbed 9 rebounds for the Lady Raiders, now 3-0. Great team defense was again the key for the girls.

Lady Raiders Victorious In Kendall Tournament Championship

KENDALL -- The Varsity Girls Basketball team picked up a second win at the Kendall Against Cancer Tournament to take the championship game 30-22 on Saturday. Melissa Grosshans led the team with 8 points which included 2 from behind the arc. Maicie Baker and Morgan Brown both added 7. Kelsi Flegal played solid defense again for the Lady Raiders and Caitlyn Mason contributed at both ends of the floor.
Mason received Tournament MVP honors and Grosshans was a member of the All Tournament Team. Barker will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Lyndonville for a 7:00 game.
Brown Nets 14 In Semi Final Victory

KENDALL -- On Thursday night the Varsity Girls Basketball team defeated the Rochester School of the Arts 39-30 in the semi finals of the Kendall Tournament. In the season opener for the Lady Raiders, Morgan Brown netted a game high 14 points while Melissa Grosshans added 9 and Caitlyn Mason chipped in with 7.
The team's defense in the fourth quarter was a difference maker as Barker outscored SOTA 13-6 by applying an impressive pressure defense. Kelsi Flegal was instrumental down the stretch with her great defensive play.
The team will play on Saturday at 5:00 in the finals against Kendall. The Barker JV Girls will play today against SOTA at 5:30 in the semi finals of the JV tournament.
Atwater & Denny Get One Last Game Together

ALBION -- Olivia Denny was the N-O All-Star's floor general and she also scored 2 points while Julia Atwater had 5 points on the night as the two seniors finished their high school basketball careers as members of the Niagara-Orleans League All Stars in the Exceptional Senior Game against the Genesee Region All Star team. The home town team lost by a 59-47 score as the girls made all the Barker faithful in attendance very proud.

Season Ends When Rally Falls Short

SILVER CREEK -- Caitlyn Mason netted 17 and Julia Atwater 14 for the Lady Raiders in the Section VI Class C1 Quarter Finals in Silver Creek on Thursday night, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Black Knights as Barker's season ended with a hard fought 47-42 loss. Down 12 entering the final quarter, Barker erupted for a 19 point fourth quarter which almost equaled the 23 points they had scored in the first three.
Mason, along with Olivia Denny, Melissa Grosshans and Maicie Baker played exceptionally well defensively for the Lady Raiders. Grosshans scored 5, Denny 4 and Morgan Brown 2 to round out the offense for Barker.
The team closes out the 2013-14 season with an overall record of 8-10.
Purple Eagles Soar In Second Half Over Lady Raiders

BARKER -- After a leads of 12-6 after one quarter, 18-10 at halftime and a 30-28 edge over Albion at the end of three quarters on Thursday night the Varsity Girls Basketball team was outscored 12-2 in the final stanza as Albion rallied for the victory. Barker was unable to get anything going offensively in the fourth and Albion went to the free throw line 18 times in the second half which aided them in getting get back into the game. Caitlyn Mason led the team with 12 points while Julia Atwater netted 8.
Mason along with Melissa Grosshans and Olivia Denny all played spectacular defense throughout the game as they were able to keep the quick and talented Albion guards at bay for most of the game. Atwater and Grosshans both pulled down 5 rebounds. Mason and Denny had 6 and 5 steals respectively.
The evening featured pre-game festivities to recognize senior Atwater, Denny and Brooke Bodine. Bodine scored on a nice cut and layup early in the first quarter.
Barker finishes the regular season at 6-8 in the league and 8-9 overall. The team will travel to Silver Creek on Thursday, February 20 for a 7:00 pm tip off against the Black Knights in the Section VI Class C1 Quarter Finals.
Grosshans On Fire Against Roy-Hart

BARKER -- Led by 17 points from Melissa Grosshans, the Varsity Girls Basketball team notched a 42-34 victory over visiting Roy-Hart on Tuesday night. Tied at 27 entering the final quarter, the Lady Raiders outscored the Rams 15-7 to make it back to back wins this week and sweep the season series. Julia Atwater scored 7 and grabbed 7 rebounds. Atwater had a huge basketball on a baseline out of bounds play with .9 left on the clock to end the second quarter to send the team into the locker room at the half on an emotional high.
Caitlyn Mason was a thief on defense with 9 steals. Mason along with Gabby Clare added 4 points. Olivia Denny had a great defensive game and contributed 5 points to the cause.
Maicie Baker had an impressive game at both ends of the floor as she blocked 3 shots and was involved in several tie ups. She also came up with 4 steals. She was the recipient of a great ball reversal play by the guards and a low to high pass from Clare when Barker put together a great 4th quarter scoring stretch.
Kelsi Flegal had a key weak side rebound and layup in the fourth quarter during that same run as Barker put distance between themselves and the Rams. Alex VeRost was solid on defense and Brooke Bodine contributed some quality minutes in the victory.
The team is now 6-7 in league play and improved to 8-8 overall. Barker will host Albion on Thursday in the final regular season game. Thursday will be Senior Night to recognize Julia Atwater, Brooke Bodine and Olivia Denny in a pre-game ceremony. JV tips off at 4:30 followed by the Senior Night recognition and then the Varsity game.
Mason Nets Game High 15 In Victory At Medina

MEDINA -- The Varsity Girls Basketball team improved to 5-7 in Niagara-Orleans League play and 7-8 overall with a 38-23 victory at Medina on Monday night. In another make-up game due to weather, Barker started slow, but picked things up in the second quarter. Trailing 6-5 after one quarter Barker outscored the Mustangs 15-6 in the second to take a 20-12 half time lead and never looked back. Caitlyn Mason scored a game high 15 while Julia Atwater and Olivia Denny both had 9. Melissa Grosshans chipped in with 5. Mason hit two threes, while Grosshans had one.
Defensively, the team had a productive night by forcing Medina into turnovers with their full court pressure. Alex VeRost and Kelsi Flegal did a good job defending their players in both the full and half court. Gabby Clare led the team in rebounds with 5.
The team returns to action on Tuesday night when they host Roy-Hart at 6:00 pm.
Varsity Girls Basketball Team Falls Short At CSAT

BUFFALO -- CSAT used a 21 point fourth quarter to defeat the Lady Raiders Varsity Basketball team, 59-48, on Friday night. Olivia Denny and Julia Atwater both netted 10 points for Barker, while Melissa Grosshans chipped in with 9 and Caitlyn Mason added 8. Mason led the team with 5 steals.
Barker will take it's 6-8 overall and 4-7 league records on the road to Medina on Wednesday for a 6:30 pm tip-off.
Lady Raiders Improve Against Defending League Champion

BARKER -- Caitlyn Mason led the Lady Raiders in scoring with 6 points as Barker fell to defending league champion, Wilson, 39-15. Although the score would show a lopsided Lakewomen victory, Barker's Varsity team played much better than it did in the earlier meeting between the two Niagara-Orleans League teams. Olivia Denny added 4 points. Mason grabbed 3 steals.
The loss drops the team to 6-7 overall and 4-6 in the league.

AKRON -- After a zero point second quarter, Barker played a solid third quarter, but came up short in Akron, losing to the Tigers, 36-21. Gabby Clare had a productive night on offense as she led the team with 8 points. Julia Atwater pulled down 7 rebounds while Clare had 6 and Caitlyn Mason grabbed 5.
Barker slips to .500 overall with a 6-6 record and is now 4-5 in the Niagara-Orleans League.

BARKER -- The Lady Raiders Rallied to outscore CSAT 17-10 in the fourth quarter during the Sportsmanship Showcase, but were still 5 points shy of tying things up. Caitlyn Mason scored a team high 14 points while Olivia Denny had 8 and Julia Atwater netted 7. Mason also led the team in rebounds with 6.
The team is now 4-4 in league play and drops to 6-5 overall.
Double Digits By Atwater And Denny
January 21, 2014
NEWFANE -- Julia Atwater scored 13 while Olivia Denny netted 11 points at Newfane on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough for the Lady Raiders to overcome a 23-10 first quarter deficit as the team lost a 56-38 game to the Lady Panthers. Barker made a big run in the third quarter to get to within 11 points, but then Newfane settled in and controlled the game the rest of the way. Barker's defense in the third quarter led to several scoreless possessions by Newfane and although Barker was able to transition better in the second half they did not convert on several chances to cut the lead even more.
Atwater grabbed 7 rebounds and Caitlyn Mason finished the game with 5 boards and 4 steals. The team, now 4-3 in the league and 6-4 overall, will host CSAT for the Sportsmanship Showcase on Thursday. The JV game is at 4:30 with Varsity to follow.
Varsity Girls Basketball Falls To Albion

ALBION -- After a great first quarter and taking a one point lead into the second half, the Varsity Girls Basketball team was unable to hold off the Purple Eagles and fell to Albion by a 53-29 count. Julia Atwater had a team high 12 points while Caityn Mason chipped in with 10.

Lady Raiders Rally From Rough Start

MIDDLEPORT -- The Varsity Girls Basketball team picked up an impressive 47-37 come from behind win at Roy-Hart on Tuesday night. Caitlyn Mason netted a game high 16 points while Julia Atwater and Olivia Denny had 11 and 6 respectively.
The defense of the Lady Raiders and their improved second half shooting was the difference in the game. Morgan Brown, Maicie Baker and Kelsi Flegal all played very well as the team improved to 4-1 in the league and 6-2 overall. Barker will travel to Albion for a JV start time of 5:30 with Varsity to follow on Friday.

WILSON -- Monday night the Varsity Girls Basketball team suffered it's first league loss of the season to the Wilson Lakewomen, 55-17. Morgan Brown played a solid game for the Lady Raiders who fall to 3-1 in league play and are now 5-2 overall. Olivia Denny, Caitlyn Mason and Julia Atwater all scored 4 points for Barker.

Clare Is A Force For Lady Raiders

BARKER -- On Friday, the Varsity Girls Basketball team improved to 3-0 in the league and 5-1 overall with a 37-24 victory over visiting Medina. Caitlyn Mason had a double-double including a game high 10 points to go with 11 rebounds and 5 steals. Gabby Clare scored 7 points, had 7 rebounds and was a force on the offensive glass as well as on defense. Melissa Grosshans and Julia Atwater both chipped in with 5 points. Morgan Brown grabbed 8 rebounds while Atwater had 7. Olivia Denny had 6 steals.
The team will travel to Wilson on Monday for a 6:30 game with the unbeaten Lakewomen.
Varsity Girls Basketball Ends 2013 On A High Note

BARKER -- Julia Atwater's 19 points and 9 rebounds paced the Lady Raiders on Saturday, in the final game of the 2013 calendar year, as Barker defeated Lyndonville 40-17. Atwater played impressive defense too for the Lady Raiders who moved to 4-1 overall. Melissa Grosshans added 6 points while Gabby Clare, Morgan Brown and Caitlyn Mason all chipped in with 4 points. Olivia Denny was involved offensively by dishing out 7 assists while Mason had 8 steals. Alex VeRost drew a charge at the defensive end while playing great help side defense.
The next game is slated for Friday, January 3, on the road, against N-O League powerhouse Wilson at 5:00.
Barker Tames Tigers In Raider Dome

BARKER -- On Friday night the Varsity Girls Basketball team moved to 2-0 in league play and 3-1 overall with a 36-30 victory over the visiting Tigers from Akron. Trailing 10-9 at the half, Barker put together a 27 point half to edge their N-O League opponent. Julia Atwater netted 17 points and pulled down 9 rebounds for Barker in the win. Caitlyn Mason added 7 points and 4 assists for the Lady Raiders. Barker was able to move the ball well as they had prepared well prior to the game.
The team will host Lyndonville in a non-league match-up on Saturday, December 28 at 11:30 am.

Barker overcame a scoreless third quarter with a 14 point 4th quarter which included 10 of 18 from the charity stripe. Kelsi Flegal had a solid defensive game. Morgan Brown and Julia Atwater both rebounded well for Barker.

MEDINA -- Makenzi Strickland and Kayla Moeller closed out their high school basketball careers on Friday night as they represented Barker and the Niagara-Orleans League on Friday in the N-O/G-R Execptional Senior Game in Medina. The N-O team came away with a 55-43 victory over the Genesee-Region team by outscoring the visitors 33-20 in the second half. Moeller netted 4 points for the home team.

BARKER -- Three Varsity Girls Basketball players received special recognition from the Niagara Orleans League recently: Olivia Denny - 2nd Team, Julia Atwater - Honorable Mention and Caitlyn Mason - Honorable Mention.
Sydney Webb, Kayla Moeller and Makenzi Strickland have all been selected to play in the Exceptional Senior Game which consists of players from the Niagara-Orleans League who will play at Medina High School on Friday, March 8 at 5:00 against of team of seniors from the Genesee Region League.

ALBION -- On Thursday night the Lady Raiders were defeated 37-23 by the Albion Purple Eagles in the final game of the the regular season. Olivia Denny netted a team high 8 points while Sydney Webb chimed in with 6.

Guards Get It Going Against Rams

MIDDLEPORT -- Guards Caitlyn Mason scored a team high 12 and Olivia Denny notched 9 in a 49-39 loss at Roy-Hart on Tuesday night. Gabby Clare and Kayla Moeller also made a difference as the guard play for the Lady Raiders showed signs of improvement by looking to shoot and take the ball to the basket.
Forwards Sydney Webb and Julia Atwater contributed 6 and 5 points respectively.
Barker is now 4-9 in the league and 6-11 overall. The girls will travel to Albion on Thursday for the final league game of the season.
Mustangs Put Damper On Senior Night

BARKER -- Monday night the Lady Raiders lost a tough battle with Medina by a 34-26 count in Varsity Girls Basketball. Makenzi Strickland, along with Sydney Webb and Kayla Moeller celebrated Senior Night prior to the contest. Strickland and Olivia Denny netted a team high 6 points for Barker. Webb and Brooke Bodine scored 5 and 4 respectively. Morgan Brown, who competed in her first Varsity game, scored her first point at the level with a free throw in the second quarter. Moeller and Gabby Clare also scored for Barker.
Things got away from the home town team in the third quarter as they were outscored 10-2 and found themselves down by 12 going into the final stanza. Denny and Clare did a great job on defense while Moeller played an aggressive game.
The Lady Raiders are now 4-8 in the Niagara-Orleans League and 6-10 overall. The girls hit the road for their final two games of the regular season. Tuesday night at Roy-Hart and Thursday night at Albion.
Denny's Free Throw Provides Margin Of Victory For Lady Raiders

BARKER -- The Varsity Girls Basketball team notched a narrow 38-37 victory on Tuesday night against visiting CSAT when Olivia Denny hit the front end of a one and one to give the team a one point lead with just under a minute remaining. Denny would finish the game with 7 points and 3 assists. Caitlyn Mason led the team in scoring with 13 points and 4 steals, while Julia Atwater chipped in with 9 points and 9 rebounds. Maicie Baker grabbed 6 boards.
The team will host Medina on Friday night which is also Senior Night as the girls’ basketball program will recognize Sydney Webb, Makenzi Strickland and Kayla Moeller. Senior night festivities begin approximately 6:15 after the JV game is over. Barker is now 4-7 in league play and 6-9 overall.
Lady Raiders Hang With Wilson In First
January 31, 2013
WILSON -- Thursday night the Varsity Girls Basketball played a great first quarter against defending N-O League Champion and currently undefeated Wilson. At the end of the first the Lady Raiders trailed the Lakewomen 12-10 playing one of their best quarters of the season. In the second quarter Wilson imposed it's will and physical play on Barker as they ran out to a 32-17 half time margin. Although Barker held Wilson to only 8 third quarter points they struggled to get things going offensively and were shutout in the stanza before winning the fourth by an 11-6 count.
Julia Atwater had a team high 9 in the 46-28 defeat while Caitlyn Mason added 8 and Sydney Webb contributed 7. Barker worked hard until the final buzzer and showed some signs of good things to build on for the remainder of the season. The forwards were a force to be reckoned with during that first quarter as Atwater, Webb, Makenzi Strickland and Maicie Baker were all involved and were contributing at both ends of the floor. Baker has been playing her best basketball of the season over the last three games.
The team will host CSAT on Tuesday. Barker is now 3-7 in the league and 5-9 overall.
Lady Raiders Win Thriller Against Tigers
January 29, 2013
BARKER -- On Tuesday night the Varsity Girls Basketball won a wild game with a 19-4 fourth quarter against visiting Akron. Down by as many as 16 in the third quarter the Lady Raiders stormed back to win 36-33. Offensively, Barker was led by Caitlyn Mason with 12, Julia Atwater with 8 and Sydney Webb with 6. Olivia Denny played a key role defensively and by running the point for the team. Gabby Clare was also instrumental in the comeback both at the defensive end and with a huge basket on a lay-up in the fourth quarter.
The team is now 3-6 in the N-O League and 5-8 overall and will travel on Thursday to play at Wilson. Game time is approximately 6:30 following the JV game. All those who plan to attend the game are asked to bring two nonperishable items to donate to support the Wilson White Out For Hunger event. Spectators who do so will be admitted free to the game.
Varsity Girls Basketball Becomes Tough Team To Play

BARKER -- The fourth quarter struggles continued for the Lady Raiders on Friday night as they took a 1 point lead into the fourth quarter, but were outscored in the final stanza by an 18-6 margin. Julia Atwater scored a team high 12 points while Gabby Clare chipped in with 7. Makenzi Strickland, Olivia Denny and Sydney Webb all added 4.
Barker, down 24-12 at the half came out of the break with an 18-5 surge in the third quarter. The team struggled in both the second and fourth quarters as they could only muster a total of 8 points in those two frames. This season the Varsity Girls Basketball team has been a tough out for many teams, especially in Niagara-Orleans League play. A much improved team over the past couple of years, Barker keeps itself in games with better defense even if they aren't scoring. The team works hard in practice and games and has done a nice job of building on the previous day. Although the wins have not been large in number, the team is much more competitive and has a chance each night to grab hold of a W.
The Lady Raiders now stand at 2-6 in the league and are 4-8 overall. The next game will be played at Barker on Tuesday against Akron.
Heart Breaking Loss For Lady Raiders Against Albion

BARKER -- After leads of 14-3, 20-16 and 33-25 after each of the first three quarters on Tuesday against Albion, Barker had a rough fourth quarter and dropped a 44-40 decision to the Purple Eagles. Caitlyn Mason had a game high 13 points for the Lady Raiders while Kayla Moeller scored 7 and Julia Atwater netted 6. Turnovers did in the team, but they showed signs of brilliance at times against a very tough Albion squad.
The team is now 2-5 in the N-O League and 4-7 overall. Barker will host Newfane on Friday.
Varsity Girls Basketball Drops Game To Roy-Hart

BARKER -- Caitlyn Mason had a team high 8 points on Friday night for the Lady Raiders in loss to Roy-Hart. Sydney Webb and Olivia Denny both contributed 6 points. Kayla Moeller chipped in with 4. Barker was down by 10 after the first quarter, but managed to chip away at the Roy-Hart lead to get to within six at the half and then again after three. Each time the Lady Raiders would whittle the deficit to 4 or 6, Roy-Hart would run it back up to 10 and ultimately won the game 42-32.
Barker is now 2-4 in league play and 4-6 overall. The team will host Albion on Tuesday in the second of four straight at home.

MEDINA -- Tuesday night the Lady Raiders Varsity Basketball team played exceptionally well on defense in a 25-16 loss to the Mustangs. Barker did a great job defending Medina's top player, by holding her to 13 first half points. Julia Atwater led Barker with 5 points and 6 rebounds.

Webb Is High Scorer For Lady Raiders

BARKER -- Sydney Webb's 8 points were a team high for the Varsity Girls Basketball team on Tuesday as the Lady Raiders fell to Tonawanda 30-21 in their final tune-up before league play begins on Thursday. Webb had a solid performance as she looked to score and made her presence knowninside. Olivia Denny netted 6 points. Makenzi Strickland played her best game of the season as she was tenacious on the boards and looked to score often. Brooke Bodine also had a good game as well and was able to get to the charity stripe.

Denny's Free Throws Late Make The Difference

KENDALL -- The Varsity Girls Basketball team improved to 2-1 overall on Wednesday night with a 26-25 victory at Kendall. Olivia Denny's two free throws late in the fourth quarter were the difference for the Lady Raiders. Denny scored a game high 12 points while the team played well defensively to keep the score low. Julia Atwater and Makenzi Strickland had 12 and 6 rebounds respectively.

Atwater Leads Charge For Lady Raiders

LYNDONVILLE -- The Varsity Girls Basketball team evened it's record last night at 1-1 with a 45-16 victory at Lyndonville. Julia Atwater and Sydney Webb led the scoring with 16 and 11 points respectively while Caitlin Mason chipped in with 9. Barker played solid defense and really transitioned well from their end to offense. Webb had 7 rebounds while Atwater had 6. Makenzi Strickland added 5. The win was a great team effort as everyone contributed at both ends of the floor. The team will travel to Kendall next Wednesday for a 5:30 JV game with Varsity to follow.
Varsity Girls Basketball Has Rough Opener At CCA

WILLIAMSVILLE -- The Lady Raiders Varsity Basketball team opened the 2012-2013 season with a rough 50-15 loss at CCA. Christian Central Academy frustrated Barker with it's solid defense and quick hitting offense. Barker was led in scoring by Olivia Denny with 7. Sydney Webb chipped in with 4 for Barker.
The team is now 0-1 and will travel to Lyndonville on Thursday for the next game.

BARKER -- At the end of season banquet on March 25 the following awards were announced:
Olivia Denny - Most Valuable Player
Heather Mason - Most Improved Player
Daniela Senior - Coach's Award
Also, the team was recognized for being selected as the WNYBOWS Brian Hansen Memorial Sportsmanship Award. This award which is voted on by the Western New York Board of Officials for Women's Sports is given to the team that best demonstrates sportsmanship in our area.
The team was also selected as the Niagara Orleans League Sportsmanship Award recipient and Olivia Denny was selected as the individual winner.
The Lady Raiders were also a Scholar Athlete team with the following members of the roster as part of that team: Julia Atwater, Brooke Bodine, Olivia Denny, Eliza Dewart, Marissa Estep, Caitlyn Mason, Kayla Moeller, Makenzi Strickland.
Eliza Dewart was recently awarded the Mr. & Mrs. Elia Scholarship at the Niagara PAL Awards Dinner
Senior Awards were presented to Eliza Dewart, Daniela Senior, Mikayla Jackson and Marissa Estep for their years in the Barker Girls Basketball Program.
Eliza Dewart was selected as an All Western New York Scholar Athlete.

All League Honors Announced For Girls Basketball

MIDDLEPORT -- Congratulations to Olivia Denny for being selected to the Niagara Orleans League Second Team for Basketball. Denny averaged 5.5 points a game to go along with 3.1 rebounds per game and 2.2 steals a game. In her sophomore season Denny led the team in both assists and steals and was the pulse of the Lady Raiders at the point guard position.
Congratulations also are extended to Mikayla Jackson and Daniela Senior who were both selected for Honorable Mention and to compete in the Exceptional Senior Game against the Genessee Region at Albion on March 9 at 5:00.
All three players received these recognitions through the coaches of the Niagara Orleans League.
Cassadaga Valley Ends Season For Barker

SINCLAIRVILLE -- On Saturday the Lady Raiders traveled to the southern tier to face the Cougars of Cassadaga Valley in the Section 6 Class C1 Quarter Finals. Julia Atwater had a solid game offensively leading the scoring for Barker with 8 points. Olivia Denny, Caitlyn Mason and Mikayla Jackson all had three while Makenzi Strickland chipped in with 1. Barker was unable to keep the Cougars in check and lost 46-18.
Gabby Clare, Brooke Bodine, Melissa Grosshans and Kelsey Blackley were all called up for sectionals.
The Lady Raiders finished the season with a 3-11 record in the Niagara Orleans League and 5-14 overall.
Lady Raiders Honor Four Seniors

BARKER -- It was a special night to honor Eliza Dewart, Marissa Estep, Mikayla Jackson and Daniela Senior for their years of dedication to the Barker Girls Basketball program prior to their final home game on Thursday night. Although the team lost a hard fought and exciting game to Albion the team has played two very impressive games this week. Senior led the team with eight points while Olivia Denny netted six. Caitlyn Mason hit a big three in the 4th to keep the score close.
On Tuesday at Roy-Hart, Estep led the team with 12 points while Julia Atwater and Denny each scored six. Kayla Moeller, Makenzi Strickland and Heather Mason have all played well down the stretch and will be counted on heavily in sectionals.
The team will play at 2:00 on Saturday, February 25 in sectionals at a location to be announced on Saturday. The team finished the regular season with a 3-11 record in the Niagara Orleans League and 5-13 overall.
League Leading Roy-Hart Upends Lady Raiders

MIDDLEPORT -- Roy-Hart wasn't feeling the love towards Barker on Valentine's Day Tuesday night as the Rams defeated the Lady Raiders, 48-33. Marissa Estep again led Barker with 12 points while Olivia Denny and Julia Atwater both scored 6.
Barker is now 3-10 in the NO League and 5-12 overall. The team will close out the league and regular season on Thursday at home against Albion. Senior Night festivities will take place between the JV and Varsity games.
Barker Struggles to Score
AKRON -- The Tigers from Akron defeated Barker on Friday night by a score of 43-28 to drop the Lady Raiders to 3-9 in the Niagara Orleans League and 5-11 overall. Marissa Estep had a team high 5 points while Kayla Moeller, Heather Mason, Daniela Senior and Makenzi Strickland all scored 4.
The girls will travel to league leading Roy-Hart on Tuesday.

BUFFALO -- On Tuesday night the Varsity Girls Basketball team picked up a 44-31 victory at CSAT. Leading the way for Barker was Daniela Senior with 12 points while Makenzi Strickland added 9. Brooke Bodine picked up her first Varsity points as she netted 4. All players cracked the scoring column as everyone contributed to the win in a positive way.
The team is now 3-6 in the league and 5-8 overall and will host Medina on Thursday at 6:30.
Wilson Sweeps Barker Varsity Girls Basketball Team For Season

BARKER -- The Varsity Girls Basketball team lost to Wilson on Friday night by a 47-13 margin. Olivia Denny and Mikayla Jackson both scored four points for the Lady Raiders.

ALBION -- Kayla Moeller and Olivia Denny led the Varsity Girls Basketball team with six points each on Tuesday night in Albion. The team dropped a 43-23 decision to the Purple Eagles.
The Lady Raiders will host Wilson on Friday at 6:30. The team is now 2-5 in the league and 4-7 overall on the season.

BARKER -- The Lady Raiders Varsity Basketball team managed to score over 40 points for just the second time this season, but unfortunately they were outscored 58-45. Julia Atwater had a team high 10 points while Mikayla Jackson added 9. Daniela Senior and Olivia Denny both netted eight. Cailtyn Mason picked up her first Varsity points in the loss.
Barker is now 2-4 in the league and 4-6 overall. The final game of the first round of their league schedule will be played at Albion on Tuesday following the JV game. JV start time is 5:30.
Big Night For Atwater Against Akron

BARKER -- The Varsity Girls Basketball team picked up a hard fought 32-27 victory against visiting Akron on Tuesady night. Olivia Denny netted a game high 12 points. Julia Atwater scored six while both Makenzi Strickland and Kayla Moeller chipped in with four. In the fourth quarter it was Atwater's four of four from the line along with Strickland's bank shot that were the big plays that helped to secure the win.
Barker is now 2-3 in the league and 4-5 overall. The girls will be home again on Friday when they host Roy-Hart. The JV game starts at 5:00 with Varsity to follow.
Lady Raiders Play Scrappy Game At Newfane

NEWFANE -- Friday night at Newfane the Varsity Girls Basketball team dropped a 41-35 decision to the Panthers. Marissa Estep had a great game in the post with 10 points while Mikayla Jackson scored a team high 12 and Olivia Denny chipped in with 7. Throughout the physical game Barker played great defense and was able to get into their offense with some impressive sets.
The team is now 1-3 in the league and 3-5 overall. Barker will host Akron on Tuesday at 6:30.

Lady Raiders Get Transition Game Going

BARKER -- On Friday the Lady Raiders Varsity Basketball team defeated CSAT 37-15 in the Sportsmanship Showcase for the third straight year. Barker was able to retain the plaque they have held for the three years the game has been in existence. Mikayla Jackson led the way for Barker with seven points while Makenzi Strickland chipped in with six. All the Barker players cracked the scoring column as the team jumped out to a 27-1 lead by halftime. Daniela Senior and Marissa Estep both scored five. Olivia Denny, Julia Atwater and Kayla Moeller all had four and Heather Mason added two.
Barker was up 13-1 at the end of the first quarter as they played impressive defense and were able to transition well to score off the fast break. Estep and Strickland both had their best overall games of the season which provided a much needed spark for the team after they struggled on Tuesday night in Wilson.
The team is now 1-1 in the league and 3-3 overall and will travel to Medina on Tuesday.
Wilson Dominates Lady Raiders

WILSON -- On Tuesday the Varsity Girls Basketball team was upended by Wilson, 57-17 in the league opener of the 2011-2012 season. The defending league champions showed they are not ready to relinquish their reign of league titles with defensive pressure and and a solid inside and outside game. Mikayla Jackson led Barker with seven points while Julia Atwater added four.

Roy-Hart Upends Lady Raiders In Christmas Tournament Championship

MIDDLEPORT -- On Thursday night the Varsity Girls Basketball team struggled at the beginning of the third quarter and never recovered in the finals of the Roy-Hart Christmas Tournament. Down 20-16 at the half, Barker was outscored 17-10 in the next quarter as Roy-Hart increased the gap significantly. Olivia Denny and Mikayla Jackson both finished the game with 10 points. Denny, who led the team in rebounds with nine and steals with three was presented with the Hustle Award while Jackson was voted to the All Tournament Team. Julia Atwater added six boards in the game.
The team will play it's first regular season game on Tuesday at Wilson at 6:30. Barker is now 2-2 overall.
Jackson Helps To Lead The Way To Finals

BARKER -- Over winter break the Lady Raiders defeated Western New York Maritime Charter 35-25 in the semi finals of the Roy-Hart Christmas Tournament. Mikayla Jackson led the team with a game high nine points while Julia Atwater and Olivia Denny both netted eight. Atwater had a team high nine rebounds and Jackson picked up seven. Denny led the team in steals with four while Marissa Estep had five blocked shots.
Barker, now 2-1 overall, will play Roy-Hart on Thursday in the finals at 7:00 PM.
Tonawanda Dethrones Defending Tournament Champs

BARKER -- The Varsity Girls Basketball team lost to Tonawanda on Saturday night in the finals of the Lady Raiders Shootout. In the three previous years of the tournament Tonwanda had won two titles with Barker picking up it's first championship last year. Tonwanda outscored Barker 13-2 in the second quarter to pull ahead and never look back. Mikayla Jackson scored a game high nine points. Olivia Denny was selected for the Tournament Hustle Award while Eliza Dewart was a member of the All Tournament Team.
The team is now 1-1 overall and will have an 18 day break from games as they don't play again until the Roy-Hart Christmas Tournament on December 28 at 5:30 PM against WNY Maritime Charter.

BARKER -- Thursday night the Varsity Girls Basketball team opened its season with a 46-29 victory over Lyndonville in the semi finals of the Lady Raiders Shootout. The defending tournament champions will now face Tonawanda on Saturday night at 7:00 in the finals. Eliza Dewart had a game high 13 points with five steals while Olivia Denny added 11 points. Marissa Estep chipped in with seven points and five steals. Daniela Senior led Barker on the boards with seven rebounds. Makenzi Strickland had six points and Heather Mason finished with five. Momentum swung in favor of the Lady Raiders when the team used it's quickness and defensive pressure in the third quarter to turn a one point halftime deficit into a nine point advantage.

In the finals the Lady Raiders dropped a 44-34 decision to Roy-Hart as they struggled to score in the second half. Olivia Denny led the team with 10 points while Mikayla Jackson added 6. Dewart and Olivia Denny were both selected to the All Tournament Team. Barker is 1-1 in the N-O League and 4-2 overall and will host Medina on Tuesday.
