  • N.A.F. to be Presented to Parents

    The National Academy of Finance will be one of the topics discussed with parents at the High School Planning Worskshop to be held on Wednesday, February 29h from 7 - 8 PM in the B.C.S. High School Cafeteria.  Letters have been sent home to all parents of eight graders.

  • Staff Meeting Held to Provide Update on Status of Academy

    The presentation titled National Academy Foundation, which can be found in .pdf format under the Academy of Finance Documents section, (to the right of this entry) was provided to BCS Jr./Sr. High School staff on Monday, February 6th, 2012, to bring staff members up to date on the status of the Year of Planning for the National Academy Foundation - Academy of Finance at Barker Central School District.

  • A.O.F. to be Presented to Staff at February Meeting - Questions Invited.

    The Academy of Finance (AOF) at BCS is taking shape and we are on track to successfully complete the Year of Planning (YOP) with the National Academy Foundation (NAF) this spring and subsequently implement instruction starting Fall 2012.

    So what has been happening recently?

    1.     AOF courses have been proposed. 
    Four     AOF courses are required to get AOF/NAF diploma. 
          Taking additional AOF courses will lead to an Advanced AOF/NAF diploma.
     

    2.     AOF 4-year plan for Non-BOCES and BOCES students has been proposed.

           3.    Recruitment, Application, and Marketing committees are looking at ways to promote AOF at BCS that will maximize the opportunities for our students

    At our February faculty meeting we will present the Academy of Finance at BCS with the most up-to-date information. We would like to address any questions you may have, big or small!    So, please send all questions to Karin Menz by email at kmenz@barkercsd.net or drop your questions in the box labeled “AOF QUESTIONS?” found near the Junior High and Senior High school copiers.  To submit your question on-line, just click the new link we have provided to the right.  From those questions a list of FAQ’s will be addressed at the faculty meeting and posted on the BCS website.

  • Academy of Finance Section Goes Live

        The new web section for the Barker Academy of Finance went live on November 18th, 2011 at 12:05 PM.  The purpose of this section is to provide a single place for all interested parties to find information regarding the Year of Planning for the Academy of Finance. 
       A friendly URL has been created for this section.  Visitors may find this section by entering the URL www.barkercsd.net/AOF.  The section appears in the Jr./Sr. High Section of theBarker website for easy access.
       Comments and ratings for this new section have also been enabled to allow visitors to provide feedback on the site.

  • Academy Taking Shape

    The Academy of Finance (AOF) at Barker Central School has been quickly taking shape with the help of the National Academy Foundation (NAF) personnel.  NAF is mentoring and preparing our school through their Year of Planning (YOP) program with benchmark requirements along the way.  Our goal is to successfully complete the YOP and role out the 1st course in September of 2012.
     
    So what has been happening recently?
     
    1.  An Advisory Board has been created to oversee and ensure the goals of the AOF are being met. 
     
    2.  Development of communications strategies:
           a. Student created brochure for 8th grade parents
           b. Presentations to 8th grade class about AOF
           c. Staff updates via email/faculty meetings
     
    3.  Potential AOF courses have been discussed and will hopefully be solidified upon an upcoming visit from the NAF curriculum specialist.
     
    4.  Classroom presentations by some business partners. 
     
    5.  Much data has been submitted regarding our current courses, schedules, class sizes, etc.
